Yet another celebration on the horizon - New Year's Eve. What an exciting year 2008 was with the election consuming all of us. What a frightening year 2008 was economically. What hope we all have for 2009 and our country's "Yes, we can" mantra. Hope is good. We'll celebrate "hope" on New Year's Eve.

You won't, however, have much of a celebration if you don't stock up with food and wine. Check your bar for win, beer, and champage. Check your pantry for cheese, nuts, chips, chocolates, cookies, etc. And, if you're out, come in and restock.

Don't forget that you've got football game-watching on the horizon-better buy even more snacks and nuts so you don't have to run to the Quik Pik at halftime!

We're still in the process of cleaning up and slashing prices on holiday goods. Come and take advantage of us.

We've had so many folks glad to be back on a somewhat normal schedule, back for lunch in the Cafe, an unhurried dinner, or a martini at the bar.

We've all had our lives temporarily interupted for the holiday season. This it he week to recoup and look back on 2008 and make wishes for 2009.

Don't forget to restock your pantry and freezer and resupply yourself with coffee and tea. Bet you're out of grits and jelly, too!

Last day of Shopping! We close today at 3:00 so that our employees can get home to their families.

We wish you a joyful holiday and thank you for choosing to dine and shop at Nofo.

If you've been practicing "being joyful" with us for the last 54 days, we hope you've acquired the "habit" by now. We've been surprised at just how easy it is to find joy if you're looking for it.

Reminder: Kwanza begins December 26

Nofo will be closed December 25 & 26. We reopen at 10:00 on Saturday, December 27.

Tuesday, December 23, 2008

Oh, my! Only 1 1/2 more days to shop.

Note: Nofo closes at 3:00 on the 24th.

Along with you, the Nofo staff's been practicing joy since November 1. We've discussed what we've learned and have decided the two most important lessons are:

... we are the source of our own joy

...we only need to be open to joy to find it.

And, yes, a third lesson:

...sometimes if you just act joyful, you turn out to actually be joyful

This two month joyful attitude adjustment has been helful for us and we hope you've found some joy yourself!

Deadline: Deadline for Joy of NOT Cooking New Year's food is today.

Only 6 shopping days left until Christmas...

choose nofo...choose joy

Think about Christmases past and the joy you felt.
Make this Christmas that joyful.

You just can't have Christmas without the red and green Christmas shaped cookies from Moravian Cookies. We Tarheels have had them in our homes every holiday of our lives. They tried to not color them this season and leave them natural. But folks like us put up such a fuss that they made some in spite of themselves.

We also carry the traditional tubes in spice and sugar. We think they're the ideal gift for a family and a great out-of-state present. And don't forget to add the tiny tubes to your stockings.

Diffusers are confusing to some folks - a new concept of dispensing scent, with no flame or spray nozzle.

With diffusers, the scent is concentrated in the oil and is absorbed by the reeds and released into the room. To refresh the scent, you simply turn the reeds over.

Think about all the places where a flame is unwelcome - like a nursing home or hospital or dorm room. A diffuser, which continues to release scent, is perfect in these situations.

For the holidays, Seda Holiday and Thymes Frazier Fir will make any room smell like Christmas without lighting a match.
